FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is a cellphone data cable?
Our data cables have a USB connection on one end and a cellphone specific connection on the other end. It allows you to connect your cellphone to your computer (either a laptop or a desktop).

2. Why would I need a data cable?
If you want to transfer data from your phone to your computer, or vice versa, you will need a data cable to achieve this (i.e. pictures, contacts, wallpapers, ringtones). Also, if you have an internet service plan (i.e. Sprint PCS), and can use your phone to connect to the internet, you would need a data cable if you want to you use your phone as a modem to access the internet via your laptop (or desktop).

3. So that's all I need? Just a cable?
Not really. The cable just connects the two pieces of hardware together. You will need a software program to allow them to interact. A few manufacturers, like Motorolla, have their own software. Others don't. One independent company called
BITPIM has developed software to fill in this void. While the Bitpim software works for many cellphones, beware that it doesn't work for ALL phones. We include all software on the CD-ROM that we ship with our cables and update it regularly to include new programs.

4. How does your cable compare to ones I've seen at other websites?
Actually, our cables are better than ones sold from other companies for two reasons. First, our cables are true USB cables, they are not serial cables that have been converted to USB. Those cables cause a variety of problems. Secondly, our cables actually CHARGE your cellphone. That's right, they take power from your computer and divert some of it to your cellphone to keep the battery from depleting. Don't worry, it's perfectly safe and UL approved. Your phone won't be damaged in any way.

5. I no longer have the book or box that came with my phone and I can't find a model number anywhere. Can you help me?
In many cases, the model number is located under the battery. Simply remove your cellphone battery and look at the sticker underneath.

6. My phone isn't on your list of products. Can you get a cable for me?
We can try. Take a picture of the connection at the end of your charging cable (either the wall socket or cigarette lighter cable) and
email it to us. We'll try to match it up with a cable that we have. Please note, that this won't guarantee that there is software to support your phone, but there is always development on that end.

7. How do I find out if I can transfer pictures from my phone to my computer? Or link up my Outlook contacts with those on my phone?
The easiest way to see which options, if any, are available for your phone, is to check out the
BITPIM documentation. It will tell you which phones they support, and what options are available to you.
